This walk traces how the Ancoats area has transformed from an industrial powerhouse to one of Manchester’s most vibrant neighbourhoods, blending restored mills, creative spaces and striking new developments. You’ll uncover stories behind historic warehouses, curious details hidden in side streets, and examples of regeneration that have reshaped the area’s character. Along the way we’ll also stop at a few TV and film locations that have doubled for cities far beyond Manchester. It’s a lively, varied route that reveals how the old and the new sit side by side.

Duration - 1 hour 30 mins.
Price - £15 per person / £10 for children under 16 / Children in prams or pushchairs free / No minimum charge.
Maximum number – 20 people. This is to ensure that quality is maximised and we do not cause congestion on Manchester’s streets.
Start point - outside No 1 St Peter’s Square, in front of the Atrium Coffee & Community Shop (which is within No 1 SPS – its sign is in the window).
End point - Piccadilly Gardens – opposite the Piccadilly Travelodge.
Accessibility - the route has many steps and uneven ground alongside a canal, so unfortunately much of it is not suitable for wheelchairs. Weather - the walk will go ahead in all weathers, please be prepared for. changeable conditions. However, if I were to cancel due to extreme weather, a full refund will be given.
